French Broad Brewery Tour

We got some time to stop by the French Broad Brewing’s tasting room for what they call a “Flight”. They had five brews on tap. The Gateway Kolsch, the Anvil Porter, an IPA, 13 Rebels ESB, and something called Wee-heavy-er. I’m a sucker for dark beers so it was a tough call between the Anvil Porter and and the Wee-heavy-er for my favorites. They were all delicious and above average beers.

The Gateway Kolsch had a light berry taste up front and a smooth finish. It was light and easy to drink.

The Anvil Porter was lighter than average porter, but still very creamy, smooth, and chocolatey.

The IPA was an exceptional IPA. Full of flavor and robust.

13 rebels ESB, to me, was closer to a brown ale than an ESB. I wouldn’t say that’s a bad thing, but if you’re looking for that extra-extra special bitter. It had a hint of caramelization and nutty-ness that reminded me more of a brown ale.

The Wee-heavy-er was an absolutely delicious scotch ale. It will possibly need to go down as my favorite scotch ale. It was super nutty with a smooth finish.
